CHOI RESIDENCE ADDITION
Choi Residence Project started with kitchen remodel. The owner wanted to open up the kitchen to dining and living room area by removing the existing walls between them. At the same time, the owner wanted to make finish upgrade to convert existing garage into new family room that can be used as semi-open space separated from living room. When we learned that the city would not allow us to convert the garage into the family room, the idea of the addition came into play.
Following the set back requirements from the city, the best location for this addition was the front of the house, maximizing the footprint of the house. With all the required programs including kitchen, dining and living room, the exact location of the family room addition and how it should relate to other rooms as well as the importance of the addition as a new main façade of the house facing the street provided a great opportunity to make this project unique, creating big open space that connects each program with various degree of visual transparency
